Assisi, Umbria, Italy

I walked up through the narrow corridors and steep staircases toward the Rocca Maggiore. But it was definitely worth the walk! It was a stunning view from the very top of Assisi, overlooking the eastern part of Assisi - Santa Chiara, San Rufino, Torre del Popolo and other houses as well as the Umbrian Valley stretching out far below me. The Rocca Maggiore fortress was built in 1174, but destroyed, and was rebuilt in 1367. The inside was cool. Some medieval weapons were on display and there was a medieval music, too.

I walked around it a bit at the top and reached the other end of the Rocca. Views toward the west were also magnificent, with the Basilica di San Francesco. The Basilica di San Francesco I visited this morning - how tiny everything looked from up here. It just made me chuckle seeing it from this high up.

Changing the directions towards the south, I looked for the path I had trod from Assisi station in the dusk of that evening, and I traced it in my head.

I sat and looked at the view for a while. Serene and peaceful.
