Assisi, Umbria, Italy |
I walked up through the narrow corridors and steep staircases toward the Rocca Maggiore. But it was definitely worth the walk! | It was a stunning view from the very top of Assisi, overlooking the eastern part of Assisi - Santa Chiara, San Rufino, Torre del Popolo and other houses as well as the Umbrian Valley stretching out far below me. | The Rocca Maggiore fortress was built in 1174, but destroyed, and was rebuilt in 1367. The inside was cool. Some medieval weapons were on display and there was a medieval music, too. |
I walked around it a bit at the top and reached the other end of the Rocca. Views toward the west were also magnificent, with the Basilica di San Francesco. | The Basilica di San Francesco I visited this morning - how tiny everything looked from up here. It just made me chuckle seeing it from this high up. | Changing the directions towards the south, I looked for the path I had trod from Assisi station in the dusk of that evening, and I traced it in my head. I sat and looked at the view for a while. Serene and peaceful. |
