Assisi, Umbria, Italy

I started strolling in the footsteps of San Francesco through the tranquil forest path. It was so serene all around me. Soon I was welcomed by the statue of San Francesco. This is the very spot where San Francesco caused water to gush from the rocks.

The hermitage complex comprises chapels and the bedroom which San Francesco used. With the statues of San Francesco's devout disciples, Brother Leo and Brother Juniper admiring the sky. There were several altars I found in the dense woods. This one is one of them.

As I kept walking farther and farther into the woods, I found a little chapel called the Cappella dei Falegnami in front of which students gathered. I loved this place. It was far more peaceful and spiritual than the Basilica of San Francesco.

Looking down on a small outdoor altar, saying goodbye to the Eremo delle Carceri, I hiked down the meandering slopes of Mount Subasio.

As I descended on my way back, the Rocca Maggiore looked far below me. Stupendous! The way back was a bit easier and seemed shorter. It was well worth the effort of getting there, and was definitely a most inspiring experience for me!
