Assisi, Umbria, Italy |
I started strolling in the footsteps of San Francesco through the tranquil forest path. It was so serene all around me. | Soon I was welcomed by the statue of San Francesco. | This is the very spot where San Francesco caused water to gush from the rocks. |
The hermitage complex comprises chapels and the bedroom which San Francesco used. | With the statues of San Francesco's devout disciples, Brother Leo and Brother Juniper admiring the sky. | There were several altars I found in the dense woods. This one is one of them. |
As I kept walking farther and farther into the woods, I found a little chapel called the Cappella dei Falegnami in front of which students gathered. | I loved this place. It was far more peaceful and spiritual than the Basilica of San Francesco. |
Looking down on a small outdoor altar, saying goodbye to the Eremo delle Carceri, I hiked down the meandering slopes of Mount Subasio. |
As I descended on my way back, the Rocca Maggiore looked far below me. Stupendous! | The way back was a bit easier and seemed shorter. | It was well worth the effort of getting there, and was definitely a most inspiring experience for me! |
