Having walked through the Georgetown district about 10 minutes, I could easily get to Georgetown University. This historic and stately structure is Healy Hall, a symbol of Georgetown, built in 1877. A statue of Georgetown founder John Carroll sits in front of it. Established in 1789, it is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit University in the US. I hear former US president Bill Clinton is a graduate of this university. It was a beautiful campus full of trees with very few people perhaps because of the 4th of July holidays. However, the planes, one after another, were flying approaching Ronald Reagan National Airport directly over the campus.

Near White-Gravenor Hall, I ran into a statue of a gentleman playing chess. It was Jan Karski, a Polish World War II resistance movement fighter who later taught at this University. It is said that he was an ardent chess player. There was a plaque on the ground in front of the bookstore, celebrating the bicentennial class of 1989.
