Tuscany, Italy - Day 4: PM
Val d'Orcia (Orcia Valley)

Walking down along Via Fonti from Piazza Dante Alighieri, I found myself dazed and amazed at unbroken rolling hills stretched out before me.

I wanted to immerse myself in the middle of Val d'Orcia so badly. I trudged down the hill into the valley. Cypress trees led me to the place I’d never been. It was hard for me to believe places like this exist on earth. There was absolutely nobody in sight. I heard not a thing.
All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a shadow passed right over my head with a sound of wind friction. I looked up, and it was a bird. It was a friction of the bird's wings against the wind. I was a bit perplexed as to how that could sound. And as I looked further up the sky, there was a contrail from a plane flying. Wondered where it was flying from and where it was flying to, to the north, south, east or west? But in the heart of the stupendous 360 degree panorama of the Val d'Orica, it didn't really mean much to me anyway.
And looking back, Pienza on a hilltop could be seen from a distance. Yes, it was a “Jewel of Renaissance” indeed. I could barely see my hotel next to Palazzo Piccolomini and the Duomo. I didn't want to move from there. I thought to myself, “What had I been doing all my life?”
Never in my remotest dreams had I envisaged such sublime grandeur could exist on earth. This I will never forget.
