Travelogues

As Millennium Travel I peregrinated throughout Switzerland with my family from Luzern, Spiez, Montreux, Nyon, and Geneva. Luckily, we could sit at the very front of the first car on Golden Panoramic Express from Zweisimmen to Montreux.

Luzern, Switzerland
"Impeccable beauty" - that's how I describe about this city. Not just the splendid city view of the lake, the trees, the mountains, and the Kapellbruecke (the wooded Kapell Bridge), but its ambience, taste, lifestyle were all like dreams. I also found the city so cozy because the city is so compact.
Liszt, a composer/pianist, visited here and created some of his works. And his daughter, Cosima, and Richard Wagner lived for six years in Tribschen which is not very far from the central Luzern. As I had seen a picture of Wagner's house in Tribschen in books a few times, I knew what it would look like. Thus, I headed for Tribschen by bus to see it with my eyes. Got off at Wartegg. Walking for several minutes, Wagner's house started to be seen in the distance. That's it! - That three story white house that I saw in books. I talked to myself, excited. Then, I walked a little more and finally saw the sign, "The Richard Wagner Museum." Back of the house was a bit hilly and there were huge poplars along the lakeshore.

Spiez, Switzerland
Spiez - I liked this neat, idyllic place. It seems most tourists just change trains here without really seeing this town. We stopped over in Spiez. Walked downhill about 15 minutes, and the castle and Lake Thun began to appear. Having lunch at a restaurant on the lakeshore, we strolled along the vineyard. This small town is worth visiting!

Montreux, Switzerland
After the exciting travel all through from Zweisimmen sitting at the very front of the first car on Golden Panoramic Express, I reached the end of the Express in Montreux. Everything had turned French - atmosphere, style, and taste, as well as language, which was interesting to me. It was so relaxing to stroll along "Quai des fleurs" (flower promenade) on Lac Leman. This flower promenade continues down to a neighboring town, Vevey where is famous for its Charlie Chaplin and Nestle headquarters. In the middle of the promenade, there was a memorial to Freddie Mercury, a member of the band "Queen."

Nyon, Switzerland
On the way to Geneva, we stopped by in the small, pretty town of Nyon, which was founded by Julius Caesar in about 58 B.C. I was quite interested in seeing objects in ancient Roman times, but the Museum, unfortunately, was closed due to renovation. Yet, I could see the ancient Roman columns beside the Museum. This town is also known for its porcelain. Most of the porcelains I saw at shops in Nyon were tiny little flowers in white - I guess that is the typical one.

Geneva, Switzerland
In Geneva, we enjoyed getting on the mini-steam locomotive at the Jardin Anglais Park; it ran very slowly along the lakeside for an hour; we got even close to Geneva's famous fountain, Jet d'eau, which soars 150 meters into the air.
